Woodland Park Zoo

My two brothers families and I spent the day at the zoo. Here are a few pictures. The two kids had an absolute blast.

Mt. Pilchuck

My brother and I hiked up to the top of Mt. Pilchuck. This is now on my list of favorites hikes. The weather was pretty bad and it was cloudy and foggy so there was no view but even so, we could tell that it was a beautiful hike with the litte glimpses we did see. And even more, it's just fun. There is a variety of rocky trail, easier hiking through forest, and hiking that goes through sub-alpine areas. The fire lookout on the top is pretty amazing. You have to climb boulders for the last 50 yards and then eventually up a ladder that leads into the lookout tower itself. Highly recommended!!! I'll be going back soon on a clear day to checkout the view. Pictures

Rattlesnake Ledge Hike

So a friend and I hiked up to Rattlesnake Ledge today. I had heard they had changed the trail yet again and it turns out they certainly did. I just don't understand why they think they have to tame the wild (e.g. making the trail 2 feet wide and practically flat). I just don't get it and sure enough, it seems to draw in droves of people now as my first photo shows. This is all the cars that didn't fit in the parking lot.

They actually made the trail slightly longer as well. . . a side affect of making it as flat as possible. Regardless of all this it is still a beautiful forest and a great hike. All the people that were up there were friendly and of course, the view from the top is always excellent. I didn't take many photos but here they are.

Trying Something New

So I'm trying something new. Instead of maintaining my own web site like I used to. I'm going to try using some of the free tools that are available on the web now. The free online tools have come a long way from what they used to be and many of them are way easier to use than having to edit web pages and then have to FTP them to the web. It isn't a problem from home but I like to be able to post updates while on the road and that was a bit tricky.

I'll move as much as I can from the old site, a little at a time . . .

For now, here's a link to view the old site http://climbbike.com
